CAPCI is a long-term, statewide initiative designed to revitalize and transform primary care for all healthcare professionals, patients and communities. Primary care is the foundation for all of healthcare and healthcare delivery. As a result of the pending retirement of Baby-Boomer primary care physicians and newly trained clinicians choosing other disciplines, California’s primary care workforce will shrink by 30% in the next 5-8 years.
A truly inclusive “Big Tent” collaborative of all interested parties has come together to address this multifaceted challenge. That means public and private sector organizations, military and VA delivery systems, academic teaching centers, public and private health plans, government, employers, primary care academies, primary care practitioner organizations, hospitals, and foundations all working together to transform primary care. CAPCI will build upon the good work and resources available and develop tools and training to fill gaps in current efforts to increase the primary care workforce and maximize the care provided.
CAPCI offers hope for change through its inclusive and ambitious approach geared to deliver both short and long term transformation. A challenge and change of this magnitude requires the entire healthcare community to support one another’s efforts to improve care for individuals and communities. Join us in the work ahead!
